Any individuals who became aware of another person’s planned, attempted, or completed suicide would need to be included in a critical incident stress management intervention. This potential is becoming more common in schools and colleges nationally and would need to be considered by managers, school principals, and school counsellors giving due regard to the wellness of both teachers or lecturers and students.
The psychotherapists at Caring Space can assist the survivors and witnesses of critical incidents, by offering immediate support which would need to include debriefing these individuals, practical directive assistance, and facilitating specialised trauma counselling to allow the restoration of normal functioning as required.
Every employer is required by law under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and 2007, to ensure that the health of the employee is not impacted upon in a negative fashion due to the type of work that they are asked to perform in their workplace.
